10:00–10:30 Preaching As Worship (Jonathan Parnell)
10:30–10:45 Discussion
11:00–11:30 Preaching to Real People (Joe Rigney)
11:30–11:45 Lunch + Discussion

Topics

Preaching Is Hard Work

Many pastors spend disportionately more time preparing sermons than they do other tasks, and rightly so. Preaching is worthy of our hard work. In this talk, Pastor David Mathis will help pastors and planters count the cost of good preaching — both in the days before preaching, in the moment of preaching, and in the hours after preaching.

Preaching As Worship

The ultimate goal of preaching is to show people the glory of Jesus in the Bible so that they join you in worshiping him. That is what is meant by “preaching as worship.” But how does that fit with the other aspects of the church’s liturgy? In this talk, Pastor Jonathan Parnell will explore the significance of the sermon in the church’s worship, including the opportunity the sermon provides and what’s at stake if we get this wrong.

Preaching to Real People

How important is particular application to the people in your congregation? Faithful ministry of the Word consists of much more than a generic sermon that might sit well with a faceless podcast audience. Pastors are to teach, exhort, rebuke, correct, and train — and that requires that we know our flocks. In this talk, Pastor Joe Rigney will help pastors and planters reimagine the task of exposition to involve more than exegesis, but also insight into the sheep.
